Proper Playtime

I’m sure you’ve all heard of ‘cat zoomies’, well this is something that you will witness on a daily basis from your new kitten, but you can manage the zoomies with some daily proper playtime, not that the zoomies is necessarily a bad thing! There’s going to be moments where your kitten is extremely hyper and it’s going to be up to you to give them 10-15 minutes of your full attention and time, and make sure they get their wiggles out. Playing with your kitten needs to be a daily routine if you’re going to want peace in your house, because if your kitten isn’t getting his bites, scratches, sprints, and jumps from a toy, it’s nearly guaranteed they’ll get it from your favorite household item, which you won’t be too happy about.
The cat loves interactive playtime specifically; it’s very rare that you throw a toy on the floor and expect them to play by themselves for 15 minutes. Like their ancestors, it is still ingrained in their mind that their daily goal is to hunt, catch, kill, eat, sleep. So, although there won’t be any hunting and killing like a lion in the wild; what there is instead that we can do is mimicking that routine by going through a few simple steps that will bring out those natural instincts in your cat, and ultimately make them the happiest little furry pet at the end of the day.
The easiest toy that brings out the natural predator in a little kitten is one of the simplest, which is a wand toy, which essentially is just a feather attached to a stick. Whether you want to purchase one from your local pet store, or make one at home with a stick and a sock is up to you, but know it will allow your kitten to get those necessary zoomies out! You want to be one with this stick and feather, be interactive, become the prey for 15 minutes, run with them, jump with them, let them feel like they are a natural born predator. Don’t just sit there on the couch watching tv twirling around the stick back and forth. This isn’t proper playtime. Although that is just one example of a great interactive toy and play session with your kitten, there are tons more so just go out there and explore different toys with your new kitten, I’m almost positive there will be some they’re not too happy about and will just leave on the floor, but there will be others that will make them super happy and energetic! It’s all about experimenting when it comes to playtime with your kitten, not one kitten is the same!
Playing with your kitten is going to solidify that bond you have with each other, it’s going to build love and trust, and it will shape that kitten to the cat it will grow up to be. So don’t forget it!

“I love animals and feel very strongly that people should not be allowed to buy a pet if they are not able to look after it. Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.”
