Diet/Nutrition

A kitten’s diet is one of the most important aspects of taking care of your new furry friend and making sure they are growing to their fullest potential, as happy and healthy as they can be. A large percentage of new owners will likely overlook the food aspect and just think to get the cheapest and most convenient kibble at their pet store, and while that is okay for your kitten, and definitely much better than what they would be eating as an outside stray, it is still not ideal for them if you truly want to ensure them a long healthy life.
The average lifespan of a stray cat is approximately 2-3 years, one of the main reasons for this is because of their diet, if cats do not get the proper nutrition, their lifespan cuts down significantly. Obviously, a stray cat is the most extreme example, but unfortunately many cats in loving homes will face hardships as well, it may not be prevalent in their early life, but will likely appear later down the line. I am talking about the differences between dry kibble and wet food, and its effects on your kitten.
My veterinarian once told me no matter the brand, cost or ingredients, the absolute cheapest wet food is still far better than the most expensive ‘premium’ dry food. As a society, it has become the norm to feed our pets kibble, but by doing so, we are unfortunately leading them down a path that can very well lead to health problems in their future such as teeth decay, kidney disease, urinary tract disease, interstitial cystitis, and much more.
Now when it comes to wet food, you still need to watch out and be a bit careful of certain brands as some will have an excessive amount of carbohydrates which could lead to health problems. Maybe not as severe as a lifetime dry kibble diet, but still not ideal for your kitten. But lucky for every new cat owner who is reading this, I have done all the work for you and have found the healthiest and cheapest wet cat food that will be best for your kitten’s entire life. I landed on this certain can after hours of research and countless conversations with my veterinarian. The wet food is ‘Fancy Feast Gourmet Naturals’.
